Canadian Trade Mark Registration is Getting Easier (and Cheaper)

If you export your products, you should protect the value of your brand by registration in all your important markets.

In a long anticipated move, on 17 June 2019, Canada will be joining the Madrid protocol for international trade mark registration.

The Madrid protocol provides a streamlined pathway for registration in multiple jurisdictions at the same time. In many cases, this can significantly reduce the costs of registration. Popular jurisdictions to cover include Australia, US, Europe, UK, Japan, and China. From June, Canada can be added to the list. As a fellow member of the CPTPP, Canada represents a major potential growth market for kiwi exporters.
